There are many rules of darshan in the temple and it is necessary to follow them. At the same time, it is also believed that if you cannot enter inside the temple due to any reason, then you must visit its (Shikhar) peak from outside.
Mythological recognition of Shikhar Darshan
According to mythological beliefs, everyday people go to the temple and worship God, but if for some reason they cannot go to the temple, then only seeing the peak of the temple can be beneficial.
It is also mentioned in the scriptures that 'Shikhar Darshanam Paap Nasham' means all sins can be destroyed by just seeing the peak of the temple. This gives the devotees the virtue of going to the temple.
It is also believed that seeing the peak gives as much punya as one gets by seeing the idol of God in the temple. For this reason the shikhara of the temple is situated at a great height so that one can easily visit it and reap auspicious results.
Things to keep in mind for Shikhar Darshan
❀ All your wishes can be fulfilled by seeing the peak and you get full results of worship. At the same time, it is also believed that if a person does not visit the peak even after visiting the temple, then the full fruit of the worship is not achieved. For this reason, along with making the peak high, a flag is also placed in it, which helps the devotees to concentrate.
❀ If you go to the temple for worship, first of all visit its peak. For this, first of all do pranam its flag and urn. Close your eyes looking at the peak and pray for the fulfillment of your wishes while meditating on your presiding deity.
❀ Sometimes even if your body is impure and you cannot go to the temple, seeing the peak from outside gives the result of worship.
❀ Chant mantras while going for Shikhar Darshan. If your presiding deity is Bhagwan Shiva, chant
Om Namah Shivay at the time of Shikhar Darshan. Chant '
Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya' for the devotees of Vishnu and
'Dun Durgaayai Namah' for the devotees of Mata Rani, so that your wishes may be fulfilled.
Just as shikhar darshan is considered useful, similarly bowing down to the steps of the temple also fulfills one's wishes and all these are considered ways of showing respect to God.
