When do the doors of Banshi Narayan Temple open?
The doors of Banshi Narayan Temple located in Chamoli are opened for devotees only on the day of Rakshabandhan. On this day, the temple remains open as long as there is sunlight. As soon as the sun sets, the doors of the temple are closed again.

Devotees from far and wide start arriving here from early morning to visit the temple and eagerly wait for the doors to open.

Story related to Banshi Narayan Temple
This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Lord Vishnu first came to this place after getting liberated from his Vaman incarnation. Then Dev Rishi Narad worshiped Lord Narayana here. Hence, the belief is that for only one day, the doors of the temple are opened for the darshan of the Lord.

Why does the temple open only on Rakshabandhan?
The story of the opening of this temple on the day of Rakshabandhan is linked to King Bali and Lord Vishnu. According to the story, King Bali had requested Lord Vishnu to become his gatekeeper, which the Lord accepted and he went to the underworld with King Bali. When Goddess Lakshmi did not find Lord Vishnu anywhere for several days, on the suggestion of Narad ji, she requested King Bali to free Lord Vishnu by tying Raksha Sutra on the full moon day of Shravan month. After this, King Bali reunited Lord Vishnu with Goddess Lakshmi at this very place.

Rare species of flowers and trees can also be seen around this temple, and the view here is mesmerizing.
