Traditional Modak:
Modak is the most favourite sweet of Lord Ganesh so it is popularly been prepared to offer during Ganeshotsav. Come and let’s know the simple method of making Modak in a traditional manner.
Recipe:
Firstly, heat a water in a vessel, now put ¼ teaspoon of salt and one teaspoon of ghee until it gets boiled. When the water comes to a boil, turn off the gas and put rice flour in this water and mix it well with the help of a spoon. Now cover the mixture for five minutes.
Add the poppy seeds in a pan and roast it light on a low flame. Now keep the roasted poppy seeds in another vessel. Now, in the same vessel, put a jaggery and keep it stir on a low flame until it gets melt. When jaggery melts well, then mix the grated coconut well and allow the mixture to get thicker. When the mixture gets thick then add roasted poppy seeds, finely chopped cashew nuts, almonds, cardamom or cardamom powder and mix it well. Now turn off the gas. Thus, the mixture of the filling in the Modak is prepared.
Now, take out the rice flour in the other big utensil and apply a little ghee in hands then make a dough. Make a dough until it becomes soft. Cover the prepared dough with a clean cloth.
Gently apply ghee in hands, take a small amount of prepared dough and start making small dumplings from it. Now keep a dumpling in a palm, use another hand and press well to give it a shape. Now in this bowl, put a mixture of jaggery with a spoon and cover it well with your fingers in a small dumplings size and shape. Similarly, prepare the rest of Modak in the same way.
Now heat up the water in a large vessel. Keep the dish in the equal size of strainer. Cover it with a plate and let them cook for 10-15 minutes in a steam. After 15 minutes remove the lid, Modak will appear very bright.
Take a Modak out of the strainer and put in another vessel. In this way, a traditional Modak dish is prepared to offer to the God.
