Guru Ghasidas was a Guru of Satnam religion, a Satnami saint and a great scholar of Chhattisgarh in the early 19th century. It was Guru Ghasidas who started preaching in the densely forested parts of Chhattisgarh.

Guru Ghasidas was a revered personality who advocated social justice, equality, truth and peace in a disturbed society and attempted to help the oppressed lower castes. His followers considered him 'Avatari Purush'. Ghasidas was against caste discrimination and fought for the rights of lower class people and rejected social inequality. To remove the evils of caste inequalities, he traveled throughout Chhattisgarh and also propagated the importance of Satnam Panth among the people.

The teachings of Guru Ghasidas are similar to those of Sikhism and he was an admirer of Saint Guru Nanak. Saint Guru Ghasidas established the Satnami society based on truth and equality in Chhattisgarh.
