Sharad Purnima is one of the most famous Purnima in Hindu festival. On Sharad Purnima, the moon comes nearest to earth with all sixteen Kala. Lord Krishna is only Lord Vishnu's incarnation having all sixteen Kalas and Lord Rama was born with only twelve Kala.

Ashwin Purnima 2024 Date:
According to the Hindu calendar, the full moon date of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month will start at 08:40 PM on October 16 and end at 04:55 PM on October 17. The time of moonrise on the day of Sharad Purnima is 05:05 pm.

On the day of Sharad Purnima Lord Krishna performed the mega dance of divine love means Maha-Raas (महा रास). Therefore in Brij region, Sharad Purnima is also known as Raas Purnima (रास पूर्णिमा).

It is believed that the moon rays on the day of Sharad Purnima have healing power think like Amrit Varsha. Traditionally on the day of Sharad Purnima kheer and sweet dishes made with cow milk, and hang in open moonlight for the whole night. In Gujarat Sharad Purnima is popularly known as Sharad Poonam.

It is believed that from this night onwards, the weather starts changing and winters begin. And the time of worship and opening and closing of the temples changes.
