Ganeshotsav start with Ganesh Chaturthi, ends after 10 days on Anant Chaturdashi which is also known as Ganesh Visarjan day. Lord Ganesh is worshipped as the God of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune and offer Him sweet dish like modak.

It is estimated that, during 1630–1680, the Ganesh Chaturthi festival was celebrated as a public ceremony in the time of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. At the time of Shivaji, this Ganeshotsav was started celebrated regularly as the patriarch of his empire. It was revived in 1893 by Lokmanya Tilak.

After the Ganpati festival lasts for 10 days, Bappa's Visarjan is done on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturdashi, also known as Anant Chaturdashi. During the Visarjan, the devotees chant Ganpati Bappa Morya, Agle Baras Tu Jaldi Aaa.

When and how to do Ganpati Visarjan
Bappa is immersed on the day of Anant Chaturdashi. During the Visarjan, devotees dance, sing, blow colors and bid farewell to Bappa with pomp.

❀ Ganpati Visarjan should always be done in water only. First of all, spread a yellow or red cloth on a wooden plate and make a swastika on it. Keep the idol of Ganpati by placing intact flowers in a pot.

❀ After this, praying for forgiveness and wishing Bappa to come next year.
