After Swami Avimukteshwaranand studied up to class 6 in the village, his family members sent him out for further studies. Once his father took him to Gujarat where he met Saint Ramchaitanya of Kashi. He left the son there. Staying here, Umashankar started worshiping and studying.

When Swami Karpatri ji Maharaj was unwell, he came to Kashi with the celibate Ram Chaitanya and here he devotedly served Swami Karpatri ji till he became Brahmalin. While engaged in the service of Swami Karpatri Ji Maharaj, he got the darshan and company of Peethadhishwar Swami Niranjan Dev Teerth of Puri and Jyotish Peethadhishwar Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati. Took initiation from Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati and became his disciple. Then from Umashankar Pandey he became Swami Avimukteshwarananda. After the death of Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, he was declared Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth Math.

Holyworks:
In 2008, he did a continuous fast in Kashi for 112 days demanding the declaration of Ganga as a national river. During this, he had demanded a concrete initiative to declare Ganga as a national river by sacrificing food and water and to keep it clean. Later, on the instructions of Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, he ended the fast.
