Temples Are Not Picnic Spots: Non Hindus Barred from Entry into Tamil Nadu Temples by Madras High Court (मंदिर पिकनिक स्थल नहीं हैं: मद्रास उच्च न्यायालय ने तमिलनाडु के मंदिरों में गैर-हिंदुओं के प्रवेश पर रोक लगा दी है)

Madras High Court gave instructions on 30 January 2024 regarding the entry of non-Hindus in the temples of Tamil Nadu. The court has ordered the Hindu Religion and Charitable Endowments Department (HR&CE) of the Tamil Nadu government to put up boards in all Hindu temples.
Non-Hindus Not Allowed to Go beyond 'Kodimaram': Court
The court was hearing the petition of D. Senthil. Hearing the petition, Justice S Srimthi of the Madurai bench of the court said, it should be written on the board present in the temple that going beyond the 'Kodimaram' (Dwajasthambam) area in the temple is not allowed.

The court further said, Hindus also have the right to practice their religion. People of other religions have the right to believe and follow their religion. But the customs and practices of their respective religion cannot be interfered with and any interference should be kept to a minimum. The temple should not be considered a picnic spot. Only worship should be done in the temple.

Let us tell you that petitioner Senthil Kumar has requested to direct the respondents to allow entry of only Hindus in Arulmigu Palani Dhanadayutpani Swamy Temple and its sub temples. The court also said that whenever any such person is allowed, his details should be recorded in the temple register.
