The first Surya Grahan of the year 2024 will take place on the
new moon day of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month i.e. Monday 8th April, which has been termed as
Khagras Surya Grahan.
The magnitude of this solar eclipse is 1.02, which means that the Sun will be completely hidden in the Moon's shadow during the longest duration of the eclipse. The longest total duration will be 4 minutes and 28 seconds.
This eclipse will be visible mainly in Canada, Mexico and the United States. The partial solar eclipse will be visible in some western parts of North America, Europe, northern coastal parts of South America, the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic. Gomez Palacio in Mexico, Austin, Indianapolis, Waco in the United States and Hamilton, Kingston, Sherbrooke in Canada are some of the cities where the total solar eclipse will be visible.
This eclipse will not be visible in India, hence it will not have any impact on
Chaitra Navratri Ghatasthapana on 9 April 2024.
