Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal was performed on the Amavasya of Magh Krishna Paksha in the world famous Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple. As soon as the doors of the temple opened at four in the morning, the priest worshiped all the Gods installed in the sanctum and performed Jalabhishek of Bhagwan Mahakal with Panchamrit.
After Kapoor Aarti, an attractive crown was placed on the head of the prabhu and he was decorated with hemp, mawa and jewellery. After the adornment was complete, the Jyotirlinga was covered with a cloth and ashes were immersed in it. After offering the ashes, a silver crown, silver mundamaal and Rudraksh rosary along with a garland made of fragrant flowers were also offered to Baba Mahakal. After which fruits and sweets were offered.
It is believed that after offering ashes, God appears from the formless to the corporeal form. Man is made of this soil and one day he merges back into this soil. But, he is always connected to Bhagwan Shiva through ashes. Devotees come from far and wide to participate in this Aarti.* Please share any of your suggestions or ideas with us.
