Jagannath Dham or Govardhan Math?
Jagannath Puri is located in the state of Odisha on the eastern side of India. Puri is situated between the Bhargavi and Dhodia rivers and merges into the Bay of Bengal. Puri is world famous for Jagannath Rath Yatra. Like Dwarka, Shankaracharya Math in Puri is not associated with the temple. Govardhan Math is located at few steps ahead from the Jagannath Dham along with the Devi Vimala temple.

According to Adi Guru Shankaracharya, Jagannath Dham has been given the name of Govardhan Math. Every sanyasi who comes to take diksha under Govardhan Math receives the adjective Aranya behind the names. The Mahavakya of this Math is Pragyanam Brahma and Rigveda is associated with this Math. Padmapada was the first monastery of Govardhan Math. Padmapada ji was one of the prominent four disciples of Adi Shankaracharya.
