Veni Madhav Temple, located at Daranganj near the sacred Triveni Sangam in Prayag, is a prominent and ancient temple dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu. This temple is also known as Lakshmi Narayan Temple. As one of the twelve (Dwadash) Madhva temples of the city, it holds great importance for devotees. According to local beliefs, participating in temple rituals and taking a bath in the nearby river frees a person from the cycle of life and death.

History and Architecture of Veni Madhav Temple
Veni Madhav Temple, dedicated to Bhagwan Krishna and Devi Lakshmi, holds a special place in the Hindu tradition, as it is mentioned in several sacred texts including the Matsya Purana, Agni Purana and Padma Purana. These texts describe this temple as the first Peetha of Bhagwan Vishnu in Prayag.

The legend behind it is very important: When the demon Gajakarna stole the sacred waters of the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, it caused great suffering. Bhagwan Vishnu in his divine compassion fought a fierce battle and ultimately beheaded Gajakarna with his Sudarshan Chakra. As soon as the demon fell, the waters of the rivers flowed out of his body and returned to their original course, restoring the sanctity of the land and bringing immense happiness to the people of Prayag.

Great saints like Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, known for his devotion to Bhagwan Krishna, experienced intense spiritual bliss here. It is said that overwhelmed by his love for Krishna, he meditated for three days and nights in the temple. Similarly, the famous saint Meerabai, famous for her devotional poetry and hymns, composed many of her favorite hymns in this holy temple.

Darshan timings at Veni Madhav Temple are 05:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 04:00 PM to 10 PM. There are four pujas in the temple and devotional songs at 08:30 pm.
