This is the eighth Swaminarayan temple built in India by Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) in Dadar, which will celebrate 40 years.
Built over a period of five years, the temple was constructed in pink stone in 1983. It was the first temple built by Swami Maharaj, the head of the BAPS Swaminarayan sect. The walls and premises of the temple have intricate carvings of various Hindu deities, made by 150 artisans. The architecture is associated with Sompura art and traditional Indian architecture of Hindu temples. “24 incarnations of the gods are depicted on its walls. The temple has five pinnacles of which three are the main ones, as well as a dome.
Bhagwan Swaminarayan, Aksharbrahma Gunatitanand Swami, Sri Gopalanand Swami, Sri Ghanshyam Maharaj, Sri Harikrishna Maharaj and Sri Radha-Krishna Dev are the deities for whom this temple was built.
