The ancient Hanuman temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Bal Hanuman from the Mahabharata period. It is considered to be one of the five temples established by the Pandavas in Delhi. Shri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram mantra is being chanted continuously for 24 hours in the temple since August 1, 1964, due to which the name of the temple is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
History of the Temple:
The form of the present Hanuman temple came before the devotees in the year 1724 when Maharaja Jai Singh of the then princely state of Jaipur got it renovated again. Before that, this divine temple of Bhagwan Hanuman located at Connaught Place had been facing many storms of invasion and terrorist atrocities. The Mahant and devotees of the temple also tell stories of many attacks on this temple during the era of Mughal rulers. But in itself it is equally miraculous and reverent that no one could ever harm this child form of Hanuman temple. The Mahant of the temple, whose last 33 generations have been serving child form Hanuman here, says that Bajrangbali always showers his blessings on the devotees coming to the Hanuman temple at Connaught Place. When worshiped properly, Bajrangbali of Connaught Place fulfills all the wishes and grants happiness and prosperity. Another specialty of worshiping this child form of Bajrang Bali is that he is especially impressed by the devotees who offer Modak and Laddus.
Along with historical references, many examples of equality of all religions and communal unity are also associated with this temple. It is said that when Mughal Emperor Akbar was unable to have a son for a long time, he came to this temple in Connaught Place and prayed for a son with full faith. And finally, by the grace of Bajrang Bali, his wish was fulfilled in the form of Salim. As an example of harmony, the moon symbol is still present on the vimana of the temple in place of Om or Kalash. Among all the features of this temple, the most notable fact is that it is the most prominent temple in the country depicting the childhood period of Hanumanji. Here Bal Hanuman has a toy in one hand and the other hand on his chest. It is the glory of Mahawali Veervar Bajrangbali that the chanting of Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram continues continuously in this temple from 1st August 1964 till today. For which it has also been included in the Guinness Book.
This temple is also of very excellent quality in terms of craftsmanship. The architecture of its main gate is in accordance with the art described in Ramayana. The entire Sunderkand's quatrains are carved on the pillars of the main gate. It is believed that when Goswami Tulsidas, who wrote historical scriptures like Ramcharit Manas, came to Delhi in the 16th century, he also visited this temple. It is said that this is the holy place from where he got the inspiration to write Hanuman Chalisa of 40 verses. The praise of such crisis-reliever Bhagwan Shri Hanuman is going to provide victory by alleviating all the diseases, sorrows, pains and fever of human beings. Any devotee who comes to circumambulate here continuously for seven Saturdays with a saddha in his mind, definitely gets the desired results.
Located on Baba Kharag Singh Marg in the heart of Delhi i.e. Connaught Place, this temple is special in many ways because on one side of it Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is situated and at a short distance there are also mosques and churches. There is a special tradition of offering chola in the temple on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Devotees use ghee, vermillion, silver work and perfume bottles in offering Chola. An amazing miraculous feature of the Hanuman temple of Connaught Place is that here Hanumanji leaves his clothes after about ten years and comes back to his ancient form.
Apart from this, four dates in a year are very important for this temple. Special decoration of child Hanuman is done in the temple on the day of Diwali, Hanuman Jayanti, Janmashtami, and Shivratri. On this day God is decorated with gold. Here, a large number of devotees come from all over the world to fulfill their wishes and offer 'Savamani' to the Bhagwan after their wishes are fulfilled.
Connaught Place is not only the commercial center of the country and Delhi but also the center of religion and faith. And the role of Hanuman temple is most important in this. The proof of this is the lakhs of devotees who visit here every day. In this context, Hanuman Temple located at Connaught Place is playing an important role in tourism and religious tourism. Usually, tourists and devotees coming from India and abroad do not forget to bow their heads in this temple. Tuesday and Saturday are two special days of worship of Bhagwan Hanuman.
