Sri Lingaraja Temple is considered to be a subsidiary Shiva temple of Jagannath Dham Puri. Every devotee who comes to Jagannath Dham must visit this temple to complete their Dham Yatra. In this temple, half Sri Vishnu and half Bhagwan Shiv have the Tribhuvaneshwar swarup, hence they are also called Hari-Hara.
A huge Trishul similar to the Garud Stambh (pillar) can be seen inside the entrance of the temple. Along with various forms of Shiva, 108 other large and small temples of other deities are also located in the surrounding of the main temple.
The temple was originally built in the 6th century, but was rebuilt in the 11th century in a full-blown manner. There is a famous
Bindusagar Pushkarini on the north side of the temple, where the holy water brought by Bhagwan Shiva from every river, lake and stream (water source) of India can be obtained.
Devotees seek the blessing of Sri Lingaraja, particularly on Shivratri.
