Jakhu Hanuman Mandir History and Architecture
Jakhu Temple is a historical temple of Hanuman amidst dense deodar trees. According to the legend, when Hanuman was going to collect Sanjeevani Booti, he rested at Jakhu temple. While going for Booti, Bajrangbali rested on the said hill of Shimla. After resting for a while, Hanuman left his companions here and set out alone to bring the Sanjeevani herb. It is believed that his monkey companions, thinking that Bajrangbali was angry with him and had gone alone, kept waiting for him to return here on the hill. As a result of this, a large number of monkeys are found here even today.
The name of this hill is 'Jakhu'. According to legend, the name 'Jakhu' was named after the sage Yaku. Hanuman bowed to the sage and got detailed information about Sanjeevani Booti and promised the sage that he would definitely visit the sage's ashram while bringing Sanjeevani. Hanuman fought and defeated a demon named 'Kalanemi' blocking his path. Due to this rush and lack of time, Hanuman could not go to Rishi's ashram. Hanuman did not want to anger Yaku Rishi, hence he suddenly appeared and created his idol and disappeared. Sage Yaku built the temple in the memory of Hanuman. In the temple where Hanumanji had placed his feet, those feet have been made of marble stone. The sage gave a boon that Hanuman, the god of monkeys, would be worshiped by the people as long as this hill exists.
