Baiju Temple is situated 700 meters away from
Jyotirlinga temple. There is also belief that a shepherd named Baiju had discovered this Jyotirlinga and the place was named
Baidyanath Dham after him.
According to another belief, Ravan was going for the purpose of establishing the linga of Bhagwan Shiva in Lanka. Due to a small doubt on the way, he caught the Shivling to a shepherd named Baiju. The Shivling became so heavy that it had to be placed there on the earth. They were established there. Ravana could not take them to his city.
According to both the beliefs, Baiju played an important role in establishing
Baidyanath Dham. This
Baiju temple was the residence of a Baiju shepherd. According to the Mahant
Shyam ji Goswami of the temple, Baiju the shepherd was none other than Bhagwan Vishnu himself.
Baiju Temple is almost in front (50 meters away) from the famous
Sheetla Mata Temple of Deoghar. The famous and busy
Ghantaghar of Deoghar is situated about 300-400 meters away from the temple.
