Ashtalakshmi Temple is a Hindu temple located near Elliot's Beach (Besant Nagar Beach) in Chennai, India. The temple is dedicated to Devi Lakshmi and her eight primary forms. The sanctorum is depicted in a multi-level complex in such a way that visitors can visit all the temples without stepping into any of the sanctums.
The temple was built on the wish of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swami of Kanchi Math. The consecration of the temple took place on 5 April 1976 in the presence of the 44th Guru Vedanta Dhesika Yatindra Mahadhesikan Swami of the Ahobila Math.
Pouranik Katha:
It is believed that Mahavishnu, who married Goddess Lakshmi, also married eight forms of Goddess Lakshmi and they live inside the temple together. Hence the name Ashtalakshmi (eight forms of Lakshmi) temple. The eight forms of Goddess Lakshmi are Gajalakshmi, Santanalakshmi, Vidyalakshmi, Vijayalakshmi, Dhanalakshmi, Dhanalakshmi, Adilakshmi and Sharyalakshmi. The length of the temple is 65 feet and the width is 45 feet.
Festivals:
Varalakshmi Puja, Navratri is the main festival of this temple, which is celebrated every year in a grand manner.
