Vaikuntha Chaturdashi is called the Milan of Harihar i.e. the Milan of Bhagwan Shiva and Vishnu. Devotee of Vishnu and Shiva celebrate this day with great enthusiasm. Like Diwali festival, the Milan of Prabhu Shiva and Vishnu is celebrated with enthusiasm. Especially it is celebrated in Ujjain, Varanasi. A grand event is organized in Ujjain on this day. Bhagwan`s Sabari begins from the center of the city, ends at Mahakaleshwar temple. On this day, the festive feeling surrounds everywhere in Ujjain.
Vaikuntha Chaturdashi is celebrated a day before Kartik Purnima. This is a festival where devotees worship both Bhagwan Shiva and Vishnu together on the same day. This is the day when Bhagwan Vishnu is given special respect at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, and the temple is decorated like Vaikunth Dham. Bhagwan Vishnu offers Tulsi leaves to Mahadev and Bhagwan Shiv in return offers bell leaf to Prabhu Vishnu.
Vaikuntha Chaturdashi is also celebrated in a huge way by the Marathas in Maharashtra. In Maharashtra Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his mother, Jijabai initiated this festival.
