Ganesh Chaturthi fast is dedicated to Bhagwan Shri Ganesh Ji. Special worship of Ganesh is done on this day. According to the Panchang, there are two Chaturthi in every month. One in Shukla Paksha and one in Krishna Paksha. The Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha that falls every month is called Sankashti Chaturthi, while the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha is called Vinayaka Chaturthi.
Importance of Sankashti Chaturthi
According to Narada Purana, on the day of Sankashti Chaturthi, one should fast for the whole day. It is said that worshiping at home on the day of Sankashti Chaturthi removes negative effects. Not only this, peace remains in the house by worship. All the problems of the house are removed. Fulfills all the wishes of the devotees. It is also considered auspicious to see the moon on this day. Let us tell you that the Sankashti fast that starts with sunrise ends only after the moon sighting. 13 Sankashti fasts are observed throughout the year. Every Sankashti fast has a different story.
Sankashti Chaturthi is also known as Ganesh Sankathara or Sankathara Chaturthi in the Tamil Nadu state of South India.
Note - The day of Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat is determined on the basis of moonrise of that day. Sankashti Chaturthi fast is observed on the day when the moon rises during Chaturthi Tithi. That's why it is often seen that sometimes Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat is observed a day before Chaturthi Tithi i.e. on Tritiya Tithi itself.
