Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Pramukh Swami Maharaj was born on 7 December 1922, but as per date i.e. Magshar Sud Atham is celebrated as his birthday. Pramukh Swami Maharaj is a great saint of Hindu religion. He was born in Chansad village of Vadodara district and Padra tehsil.
Swami Maharaj had left his home and adopted the path of spirituality in his youth. He became a disciple of Shastri Maharaj and started his spiritual journey as Narayan Swarup Dasji on 10 January 1940. About 74 years ago, in 1950, at the age of just 28, he had taken over the post of BAPS chief. At this time, there were many saints in BAPS who were older than his age, but it was due to Pramukh Swami's saintliness, humility, compassion and spirit of service that the organization appointed him to this post.

Today Pramukh Swami Maharaj is an internationally renowned spiritual leader. He has constructed 1100 grand temples in the country and abroad and the construction work of many huge temples is going on. The temple built in New Jersey, America, is the largest Hindu temple in the world, which was started by Swamiji himself.

This occasion is celebrated with great pomp by Swami Narayan Sanstha. All the followers remember this great Guru and follow his words. To commemorate this important occasion, an enlightening program of videos, Swami narrations and cultural performances is organized at BAPS Temple and streamed through live webcast. It serves as the national festival for all BAPS temples and centers in the UK as well as Europe, India.
