Pitru Paksha, also known as Shraddha or Kanagat, begins with Shraddha Purnima and ends after sixteen days on the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya. Hindus pay respects, thanks and tributes to their ancestors (ie fathers), especially through offering pind, bhojan or prasad.
It is believed that at the time of Shraddha, ancestors come to earth to bless their relatives. The interpretation of Shraddha Karma is found in both the era of Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
