Phulera Dooj is celebrated in the middle of Phalguna month and is considered as a symbol for the arrival of Holi. The festival of phulera dooj is gracefully celebrated in North India. The preparation of holi just begins after phulera dooj. Some people even consider and celebrate it as the day of Holi. The making of gulariyan starts from this festival.
In this festival, rangoli is made with the flowers and especially, Lord Radhakrishna is adorned with flowers and people worship them. The significance of this festival is highest in Sri Krishna temples of Brajbhoomi. On this day, all the temples in Mathura and Vrindavan are decorated with flowers and holi is celebrated with flowers. Devotees are observed reciting and listing to the Bhajans in the temples of Lord Krishna.
It is also believed that phulera dooj is the most auspicious day of this month and any important work can be done during this festival. After the winter season, it is considered to be the last auspicious day for marriage. On this day, the marriage ceremony can take place at any fortunate time. This day is believed quite favorable, but still many astrologers do not accept this fact.
