According to the Hindu calendar, Narmada Jayanti is celebrated every year on Shukla Paksha Saptami in the month of Magha. Devotees offer prayers to Narmada Maiya on the day of Narmada Jayanti festival. Amarkantak, located in Madhya Pradesh, is the origin of the river Narmada, where Narmada Jayanti is celebrated with the most enthusiasm. It is believed that Narmada ji came into existence on the Saptami tithi of Magha Shukla Paksha. Saptami is also considered as the day of Surya Bhagwan.

Narmada Jayanti Celebrations:
Devotees take a dip in the holy water of river Narmada on this day at sunrise. And prays to Devi Narmada for health, wealth and prosperity in life.
Devotees offer flowers, lamps, turmeric, kumkum to the river. Some devotees worship by lighting a lamp made of wheat flour which they keep on the bank of the river. The day ends with the evening aarti of the river, which ends in the evening on the banks of the river.
