The Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month is known as Pitru Paksha. And on the Navami Tithi of Pitru Paksha i.e. Ashwin Krishna Navami, there is a ritual to perform Shradh for mothers, married women and commanded women. Therefore, this Shraddha date is called Matra Navami.
It is believed that, if women were offered tarpan along with all the rituals on Matra Navami, then the matra shakti is pleased and fulfills all the wishes. Matra Navami is also known as Navami Shradh, Naumi Shradh and Avidva Shradh.

अश्विन कृष्ण नवमी के दिन माताओं, सुहागिन स्त्रियों और आज्ञात महिलाओं के श्राद्ध करने का विधान है। मातृ नवमी को नवमी श्राद्ध, नौमी श्राद्ध तथा अविधवा श्राद्ध के नाम से भी जाना जाता है।
Matra Navami Shradh Vidhi
❀ Wear clean clothes after taking bath etc. in the morning.
❀ Place the picture of the deceased family member by laying a white seat on the post.
❀ Offer garlands, flowers on the picture, light a black sesame lamp and dhupbatti in front of them.
❀ Offer Ganga Jal and Tulsi Dal on the picture and recite Garuda Puran, Gajendra Moksha or Bhagwat Geeta.
❀ After reciting, according to Shradh, prepare sattvik food and keep it outside the house in the south direction.
❀ Must take out food for cow, crow, ant, bird and brahmin also.
❀ Remembering your deceased family members, apologize to them for your mistake and donate as much as you can.
❀ Do worship of Tulsi ji on this day.
❀ Offer water on Tulsi and light a lamp near it.
❀ By the end of the afternoon, the rituals related to Shradh should be completed.
