Kalidas was an eminent personality for his greatest Sanskrit poems and plays. He is a famous poet whose Kalidas Meghdoot is considered one of the greatest poems in the world. It is believed that Kalidas was a great worshiper of Mata Kali. That is, the name of Kalidas ji means one who serves Kali.

When is Kalidas Jayanti celebrated?
The great poet Kalidas ji was born on the Dwadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. He was born in Kaviltha village of Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state. Kalidas was one of the nine gems of Vikramaditya's Darbar. The main attraction about him that most people realized was his immense interest in writing poetry and describing things with words.

Some major works of Kalidas

It is said that Kalidas was uneducated and foolish in his early life. But when his wife insulted him and threw him out of the house because of his incompetence, he expanded his abilities and one day became Kalidas, the great poet of the country.

He spent his entire life writing Sanskrit poems on various subjects. The poetry collections are based on the surrounding beauty. He had written some of the best works of society. Meghdoot is one of those brilliant creations that depicts serene beauty through the use of poetry and words alone. His writings influenced many people and hence his writings were translated from Sanskrit language to English.

Malavikagnimitram, Abhijnanashakuntalam and Vikramorvasiyam are three famous plays written by Kalidas. These three plays are appreciated among writers even today.
