Kalashtami is a Hindu festival that falls on the Ashtami tithi of the Krishna Paksha of every month, which is dedicated to Bhagwan Bhairav, a fierce form of Bhagwan Shiva. Due to coming in every month, this festival is celebrated a total of 12 times in a year, and 13 times in case of Adhik Maas. Due to the worship of Kaal Bhairav, it is also called Kaal Bhairav Ashtami or Bhairav Ashtami.
The most famous one is Kalashtami, which falls on the Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha, which is known as Kalabhairav Jayanti. Its importance increases even more when Kalashtami falls on a Sunday or Tuesday, because these days of the week are also considered dedicated to Bhagwan Bhairav.
