📜International Gita Mahotsav - अंतर्राष्ट्रीय गीता महोत्सव

International Gita Mahotsav is the name of the festival celebrating the emergence of the holy book of Hindus Shrimad Bhagavad Gita. International Gita Mahotsav is celebrated by the Government of Haryana at Brahmasarovar in Kurukshetra. Kurukshetra is the land where Bhagwan Krishna narrated the divine knowledge i.e. 'Bhagavad Gita' to Arjuna. This holy book Gita provides all the solutions to any problem of life.

When is Gita Mahotsav celebrated?
Gita Mahotsav concludes with Gita Jayanti on the 11th day of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month as per Hindu calendar. Haryana Government decides all the dates and programs of the International Gita Mahotsav. This year, Gita Mahotsav is being celebrated from 28 November to 15 December. Gita Jayanti was declared as International Gita Mahotsav in the year 2016 by the Government of Haryana.

Where is Gita Mahotsav celebrated?
Gita Mahotsav is mainly organized in Kurukshetra, Haryana, but the important venue of the Mahotsav and the center of all the programs is Vindu Brahma Sarovar. It is believed that this is the same place where Bhagwan Krishna narrated the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna during the Kurukshetra war. This place is also important because the famous sage Manu wrote Manusmriti here. Rigveda and Samaveda were also composed here.

Major activities of Gita Mahotsav Celebrations
Gita Mahotsav is a popular festival of Kurukshetra in which various activities like fair, yagya, Gita recitation, bhajan, aarti, dance and drama are organised. This event attracts tourists and pilgrims, in which the impact of this sacred text on mankind is discussed through discussions, seminars and symposia by scholars, philosophers, priests and sages. Additionally, stage plays and Gita chanting competitions are organized for children to showcase their talent, in which leaflets, booklets and books containing the essence of Gita are distributed.
