Goga Navami is celebrated on the second day of Shri Krishna Janmashtami in the month of Bhadrapada. The popular deity of Rajasthan, Goga ji is also known as Goga, Jaharveer Goga, Gugga, Goga Pir, Jaharpir, Goga Chauhan, Goga Rana, Goga Bir, Goga Maharaj and Raja Mandlik.
In Gogamedi, a small town in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan, the fair (Mela) of Gogaji is very famous on the ninth of Bhadon Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. In this fair, apart from the state of Rajasthan, devotees also come from Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Goga Navami is celebrated with great enthusiasm as the birth anniversary of Shri Jaharveer Gogaji.
Gogaji Maharaj, the great disciple of Baba Gorakhnath, is considered the god of serpents. Therefore, serpents are worshiped on this day. It is believed that by keeping the soil of the place of worship in the house, one gets freedom from the fear of snakes. According to mythological belief, there is no danger of snakebite by worshiping Goga Ji Maharaj. Hindus worship him as Gogaji and Muslims as Gogapir and Jaharpir.
According to a legend in Rajasthan, Pabuji, Hadbuji, Ramdevji, Mangaliyaji and Mehaji are considered to be the five main peers (Panch Peers). This popular belief is known as Doha as follows:

Puja Vidhi on Goga Navami
❀ On the day of Goga Navami, wake up early in the morning and take a bath and make an idol of Gogadev out of clay or worship the picture. Devotees worship the idol of 'Gogaji' on Goga Navami.
❀ It is said that the ritual of worshiping bhagwan Goga begins on Shravan Purnima (the day of Raksha Bandhan) and continues for nine days till Navami in some regions.
❀ Offer rice, roli, clothes etc. to Goga Dev. Offer Kheer, Churma or Gulgule as bhog. There is a tradition of feeding lentils to the horse on this day.
❀ In Guga Mari temples, many pujas and processions are organized. For protection from danger, Hindus also tie Rakhi or 'Raksha Stotra' to Bhagwan Goga on the occasion of Goga Navami.
❀ At the end of the puja, devotees chant the Gogaji Katha. After the completion of the puja rituals, rice and chapati are distributed among the worshipers as prasad.
❀ During the Goga Navami festival, extensive fairs are also held in the rural areas of northern and northwestern India. The Guga Navami Mela in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh is the biggest and most popular of all the fairs and melas.
Significance of Goga Navami
Goga Navami is one of the important Hindu festivals celebrated in the honor of Gogaji. According to legends, Goga ji is known to be a mighty Rajput prince who had supernatural powers to control poisonous snakes. Hindus believe that worshiping him on this day protects him from snakes and other evils. Apart from this, there is also a popular belief that Bhgawan Goga protects children from all harm. Hence married women worship Goga Navami and pray to him for the well-being and long life of their children. Some childless married women also pray for children on this day.
Gogaji is considered the ultimate disciple of Gorakhnath. Goga Navami is also known as Gugga Navami.
