Prachalit Katha
According to a legend, there used to be two demon brothers named Malla and Mani. Both the demons created great havoc in the lives of saints, deities and people.
Fed up with the terror of the demons, all the Bhagwan’s reached Bhagwan Vishnu but Bhagwan Vishnu asked them to go to Brahma ji for their help. Then, all the gods went to Brahma ji, Brahma ji also refused to help them.
All the deities moved towards Bhagwan Shiva and told him everything. Then, Bhagwan Shiva incarnated himself as a giant warrior, Khandoba, to kill the demons. These warriors appeared to shine like gold and the sun.
The face of this warrior was covered with turmeric. After this Bhagwan Shiva went to fight with both the demons. When Mani was about to die, he gave Khandoba his white horse and apologized for his past deeds, and asked for a boon(Var) that Bhagwan Shiva should also be present at his feet where he is worshipped.
Khandoba Temple
The Khandoba Temple, famous for the Haldi festival, is situated on a small hill with a climb of 100 steps. The Deepmala situated in the courtyard of the temple is considered to be the most beautiful sight here. A procession of Bhagwan Khandoba is also taken out here before the Haldi festival.
