Bhairav Jayanti festival is dedicated to Baba Bhairav Nath, the fearsome form of Bhagwan Shiv. Being the day of Paush Shukla Dwitiya, this festival is also called Bhairav Dwitiya. Bhairav Jayanti is celebrated with different dates in different parts of India.
It is also known as Bhairavashtami, Bhairava Jayanti, Kala-Bhairava Ashtami and Kala-Bhairava Jayanti and counted as a Hindu holy day commemorating the birthday of Bhairava. Bhairava is specifically worshipped for success, wealth, health and obstacle removal. A devotee is said to be freed of sin and the fear of death by observing Bhairava Ashtami.
In the national capital of Delhi, this festival is celebrated on the Dwitiya day or next Sunday. And in the surrounding area, Bhairav Jayanti is celebrated according to Kilkari Bhairav temple.
