The tallest Hanuman idol of 25 feet has been installed in the
Mahalakshmi temple of Hockessin, Delaware, USA, which has been brought from Warangal, Telangana.
It is the tallest statue of a Hindu god in the country and has been carved out of a single stone of black granite. This 30,000 kg weight Hanuman statue took more than a year to complete.America's Tallest Hanuman Statue Description:
The idol of Hanuman weighs 30,000 kg and cost $100,000 to build. Stone and black granite from Warangal have been used in many temples of Warangal, including the famous Thousand Pillar Temple. More than 12 artisans worked full time in Warangal for more than a year to make this idol. And, the idol was carved out of a single block of black granite.
The Hindu Temple Association of Delaware said, "It took us about eight months from finding the stone to bringing the idol to the US."
The idol was brought from Hyderabad to New York in a ship and taken to Delaware by flatbed truck. All the rituals including the purification of the deity were performed by a priest from Bengaluru. The project was called the Hanuman Project in which over 300 families and devotees of the temple as well as the resident priest underwent a 10-day installation process.
