Shravan month is the fifth month of the Hindu calendar. The month of Shravan is very important for all Indians, as it marks the arrival of the South-West Monsoon. For many Hindus, the month of Shravan is a month of fasting and many Hindus observe a fast for Bhagwan Shiva every Monday and Devi Parvati every Tuesday. The fasting on Tuesdays of this month is locally known as "
Mangala Gauri Vrat".

According to the mythological belief of Hindu religion, the month of Sawan is considered to be the month of Mahadev Bhagwan Shankar. It is said that wishes are fulfilled in this month by the grace of Bhagwan Bholenath.
Ramcharit Manas and Ram Naam Sankirtan have special importance in this month of Shravan, according to mythological beliefs, in the month of Shravan, mata Parvati pleased Bholenath by doing penance and received him as her husband.

Shravan month has special significance in Hinduism. Mondays of Sawan, Mangala Gauri Puja, Nidri Navami, Kamika Ekadashi, Hariyali Amavas, Shravani Teej, Nag Panchami, Rakshabandhan etc. festivals are celebrated only in the month of Shravan.
