Ashwin Maas 2024 (आश्विन माह 2024)

Ashwin is considered the seventh month of the year. It falls in September-October of the Gregorian calendar. According to the Vikram Samvat, the Pratipada after the full moon in the month of Bhadrapada is the first date of the month of Ashwin. Ashwin month has got its name because of 'Ashwini' Nakshatra. 'Ashwini' is the first of the 27 Nakshatras used in the calculation of time in the Hindu calendar.
Importance of Ashwin Maas
Just as Sawan is considered the month of Bhagwan Shiva, Bhadrapada is considered the month of Bhagwan Krishna, similarly the month of Ashwin is called the month of Devi Durga. Four Navratras are celebrated every year in India, but generally people consider Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratras to be the maximum in the year. Sharadiya Navratri begins in the Shukla Paksha of the month of Ashwin and ends in Vijayadashami. Devotees keep a fast for 9 days during Navratri and worship Devi Durga with rituals.

Celebration of Ashwin Maas
Ashwin month has special significance for the people of Hindu religion. In this month, Shraddha rituals are performed on Pitru Paksha to liberate the ancestors and give them energy. Pitru Paksha falls in the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin. It is believed that on this side the ancestors can come to the house in any form. Therefore, no living being should be disrespected in this one fortnight (Pitru Paksha). Rather, every living being who comes to his door should be honored by giving food. According to astrology, Pitra Dosh is very important in the horoscope and therefore Shradh rituals are performed to celebrate the ancestors and seek their blessings. No new work is started during Pitru Paksha. This Paksha starts from Bhadrapada Shukla Purnima and lasts till Amavasya.
