7 Grains Used in Navratri Ghatasthapana Puja (नवरात्रि घटस्थापना पूजा में उपयोग किए जाने वाले 7 अनाज)

The installation of Kalash is considered to be the most important thing in the worship of Navratri. In the scriptures, establishing the Kalash is considered to be the form of Lord Ganesha. Ghatasthapana is done on the first day of Navratri so that with the grace of Lord Ganesha, the puja work can be completed without any hindrance during the 9 days of Navratri. Kalash is the form of Lord Ganesha in which all the places of pilgrimage, sea, holy rivers, many deities including Varuna reside. According to Vedic tradition, 7 types of grains are also included in the materials required for setting up the Kalash. It is also called seven grains. These 7 types of grains are considered to be related to 7 planets. By using it in establishing the Kalash, peace of all the planets is invoked.

Barley - Jau
Barley is considered to have the most importance in the worship of Navratri. Barley is believed to be related to the planet Jupiter. With the use of barley, your Guru becomes strong and if your Guru becomes strong, your career, money and financial condition improves.

Sesame Seeds - Till
White sesame is also one of the 7 grains used for setting up the Kalash. White mole is seen to be associated with Venus. With the strengthening of Venus, along with increase in your material happiness, sweetness also remains in your married life.

Paddy - Dhan
Paddy ranks third among the seven grains used for setting up the Kalash. Paddy is considered to be related to the Moon. Using paddy in havan and puja strengthens your moon. Due to the strength of the Moon, a person remains away from cold and other weather related diseases. The Moon reduces the anger of a person as per its nature.

Moong
Moong is considered to be related to planet Mercury. Due to the auspicious influence of Mercury, a person gets beauty, qualities, intelligence and beauty. It is considered necessary to include moong in the establishment of the Kalash.

English - Mong Bean, Green Gram

Marathi - Moog

Foxtail Millet - Kangani
Kangni i.e. lentils are used as the fifth grain for establishing the Kalash. Lentils are related to Mars, which is considered a fiery planet. By including lentils in the puja, the ill effects of Mars do not remain on you.

Gram - Chana
Black gram is used as the sixth grain for establishing the Kalash. Black gram is related to planet Saturn. Saturn is considered the god of deeds. Along with giving the fruits of good deeds, Shanidev also gives punishment for bad deeds. By using gram in puja, you stay away from the condition of Saturn.

Wheat
Wheat is used as the seventh grain for establishing the Kalash. Wheat is considered to be related to the planet Sun. Using wheat in worship strengthens your Sun planet. Due to the strength of the Sun, you get a healthy body as well as longevity.

Telugu - Godhumalu
Marathi - गहु

It is considered very auspicious to sow barley in a vessel kept under the Kalash during the worship of Mata Rani. It is said that if these barley comes out green then happiness and prosperity comes to the house.
